Types of non-vacuum blood collection tube.

EDTA

Laboratory use: Whole blood, CBCESRCoombs test, platelet antibodies, flow cytometry, blood levels of tacrolimus and cyclosporin.

EDTA tubes should be inverted 8-10 times rolled in the blood mixer to assure complete mixing with blood.

Tube cap colour:     Lavender   

Clot activator

Laboratory use: Serum-separating tube, Tube inversions promote clotting. Most chemistry, endocrine and serology tests, hormones tests, drug virology, including hepatitis and HIV.

Invert tube 8-10 times to activate clotting.

Tube cap colour:     Red   

Flouride

Laboratory use: Glucose determination

Flouride tubes should be inverted 8-10 times to assure complete mixing with blood.

Tube cap colour:     Gray   

Laboratory use: For coagulation determinations. CTAD for selected platelet function assays and routine coagulation determination.

Sodium citrate tubes should be inverted 3-4 times to assure complete mixing with blood to prevent clotting.

Tube cap colour:     Light Blue
